Synopsis
On 18 April 2015, a boat sinks off the coast of Libya. Around 800 migrants die. It is the worst tragedy in the Mediterranean since the end of the Second World War. The Italian government takes an unprecedented decision: to refloat the wreck and try to identify the victims. Leading this operation is Cristina Cattaneo. A hoodie, trousers, a belt. This is what remains of ‘number 387’. Using bone examination, 3D reconstruction and DNA cross-checking, Cristina and her team will do everything they can to give each body a name. In Greece, Pavlos Pavlidis has been working for 17 years to identify unnamed bodies. Today, like Cristina, he works on the identification of Mediterranean victims for the International Red Cross. It is not just a search for names: it is a search for humanity.
