Comitato 18 Aprile
The Comitato 18 Aprile, established in the summer of 2015 in Augusta (Siracusa), was formed for the purpose of preserving the memory of the tragic shipwreck that occurred on April 18, 2015 in the Sicily Channel where more than 1,000 migrants who had departed from Libya lost their lives.
Every year, the various groups and associations that make up the Comitato organize a Commemoration in Augusta that takes place around the wreck of the shipwreck, a symbol of that massacre, which was recovered from the Mediterranean sea in 2016, exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2019 and then deposited in the port of Augusta where it is currently located.
