Amnesty International Italia

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who are committed to creating a future where human rights are enjoyed by everyone.
Amnesty International has a vision of a world where everyone can enjoy the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights mechanisms. To achieve this vision, Amnesty’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights. Amnesty’s core values are rooted in its commitment to the global community of human rights defenders that make up the organization:

  • International solidarity
  • Effective action for the individual victim
  • Global coverage
  • Universality and indivisibility of human rights
  • Impartiality and independence
  • Democracy and human rights

Amnesty International is present in 71 countries and territories worldwide with sections, structures and offices of the International Secretariat. There are several leadership groups at Amnesty International who are tasked with guiding the global movement. Members of the International Board are voted on at the annual Global Assembly, by Amnesty members from around the world. The Secretary-General, Amnesty’s chief spokesperson, is selected by the International Board. They head up the Coalition Leadership Team, who serve as the senior directors at the International Secretariat.
Concerning refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, Amnesty campaigns for a world where human rights can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what situation they are in. Amnesty has championed the human rights of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants for decades. Amnesty campaigns to make sure governments honour their shared responsibility to protect the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Amnesty condemns any policies and practices that undermine the rights of people on the move.

Amnesty International Italia is a growing community of  some 130,000 people – including members, donors, activists, staff, and collaborators – dedicated to promoting the values of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
After its initial meetings in 1975, it was officially established in 1976. Today, it operates as a third-sector organization and a recognized association, registered in the registry of legal entities. It has its own Statute, a governance system based on democratic principles, and a complex organizational structure capable of fully realizing the vision and mission of the global movement.
