No Name Kitchen (NNK)

No Name Kitchen (NNK) is a grassroots, volunteer-driven organization that provides direct aid and advocacy for displaced people, particularly refugees and migrants along Europe’s borders. NNK was born in Belgrade in the winter of 2017 when activists started cooking alongside thousands of people who were fending for themselves after the Hungarian border closure. Since then, NNK has defended the rights of people on the move and asylum seekers, challenging systemic violence and providing essential support. NNK focuses on supporting people who face violence, exclusion, and inadequate living conditions as they attempt to seek refuge in Europe. The organization’s work includes:

  • Food Distribution: Offering daily meals and food packs to migrants living in precarious conditions, particularly in the Balkans and southern Europe.
  • Mobile Aid Units: Delivering essential items like sleeping bags, tents, and warm clothing directly to areas where migrants are most in need.
  • Pushback Monitoring: Documenting illegal pushbacks by border authorities, exposing human rights violations to the broader public.
  • Advocacy Campaigns: Collaborating with international networks to pressure governments and institutions for systemic change.

Main Projects:

HEALTH & CARE ON THE MOVE
NNK provides first aid on the spot to people who cannot access public healthcare systems, preventing diseases through the distribution of hygiene kits, provision of showers, anti-scabies packs, laundry services, and covering specialized treatments such as dental and ophthalmological care. We also focus on mental health issues through caretaking activities, such as psychoemotional support sessions and leisure activities.

HUMANITARIAN AID DISTRIBUTIONS
NNK provides food packs, shopping vouchers, and clothing, such as shoes, blankets, and sleeping bags, to support people’s self-protection. Assistance is tailored to the specific needs communicated through our hotlines, where individuals share their requests, enabling our field team to plan and prepare distributions accordingly. However, beyond the materials, what we truly try to distribute is empathy, warmth and a message of solidarity.

LEGAL PROTECTION & BORDER VIOLENCE MONITORING
NNK identifies instances of abuse at the border through investigations of violations of rights, collects testimonies from individuals who have experienced violence, produces advocacy reports to influence political action and raise social awareness, and provides legal counselling to individuals in distress.

NNK has active projects in several regions, including:
The Balkans: Supporting migrants along transit routes in Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia.
Southern Europe: Assisting refugees in Spain and Italy, particularly those arriving by sea.
Border Zones: Monitoring and reporting on conditions at key European border points.
