Cantieri Meticci

Based in Bologna, Italy, Cantieri Meticci is a collective of artists, educators, and activists using theatre and participatory art to foster social cohesion and intercultural dialogue. Founded in 2014 by director and playwright Pietro Floridia, the collective brings together people from over twenty countries, including refugees, migrants, young artists, activists, and researchers, all sharing a strong belief in the transformative power of art.

Cantieri Meticci operates in public and peripheral spaces, engaging diverse communities through theatre workshops, performances and installations. Their projects create shared cultural spaces, strengthening connections between migrants and local communities and enhancing intercultural communication. Since 2014, their flagship program “Quartieri Teatrali” has transformed libraries, schools, reception centres and community hubs into creative laboratories, where participants experiment with theatre and storytelling. These workshops culminate in public performances, staged in both city landmarks and suburban areas, reinforcing social bonds and fostering dialogue.

Beyond theatre, Cantieri Meticci has been working in schools throughout Bologna since 2015, using narrative and performance to promote empathy, cultural awareness, and active citizenship among youth. Since 2022, they have also developed the Multilingual Narrative Tool “Uccellina”, demonstrating how creative tools can support language acquisition and cultural education.

Internationally, Cantieri Meticci has performed at major festivals in Italy, France, Poland, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Brazil and Iran, and has been actively involved in European projects on intercultural dialogue and social engagement, including Europe for Citizens (2014), Actors of Urban Change (2015), Creative Europe (2016) and Atlas of Transitions (2017-2019).

Their home, Spazio MET, is a former warehouse regenerated with a focus on sustainability. Today, it serves as a hub for festivals, performances, intercultural gatherings, and creative experimentation. Through their work, Cantieri Meticci continues to challenge boundaries, amplify voices, and create spaces where theatre becomes a tool for change.
